INTRODUCTION TO MASSAGE

If you are interested in giving your family and friends a massage and want to learn the basic strokes then this is the ideal course for you. It is a practical hands-on 1 day course with small groups to gain optimum benefit and have one-to-one tuition. Everyone will give and receive a massage and learn the following strokes:

  • Effleurage: Gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and/or fingertips
  • Petrissage: Kneading movements with the hands, thumbs and/or fingers
  • Tapotement: Hacking and Cupping

Massage can be relaxing and invigorating. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation all in a positive way, while boosting the immune system and promoting health and well being generally. To be able to give a massage is an amazing gift and can help individuals deal with the day to day stresses of life. The day includes handouts to cover:

  • Contraindications to massage
  • History and benefits of massage
  • Massage mediums e.g. oil, cream
  • Classification of massage movements
  • Basic massage techniques and sequence
  • Massage aftercare advice

Each student will receive a certificate of attendance.

AROMATHERAPY

This one day course involves learning the basics of aromatherapy for you to use the essential oils on yourself, family and friends to aid insomnia, IBS symptoms e.g. constipation, depression, anxiety, arthritis, acne, burns, pain relief, allergies, asthma, eczema, reproductive disorders and many more. Using pure essential aromatherapy oils which are the “life force and soul” of plants, many symptoms can be helped. The aromatic oils are extracted from a single botanical source by distillation or expression and are found in the flowers, leaves, roots and bark of the plant/tree. These can relax, uplift, energise and work on physical and emotional symptoms.

  • Safety data of how to use the essential oils
  • Benefits of at least 10 essential oils
  • Blending the essential oils together depending on their notes
  • Carrier oils
  • Basic massage moves for the back
  • Application of essential, including diffuse them with aromatherapy burners, how to use in the bath, how to add to creams and how to use in inhalations

Introduction to Reflexology

This introduction course offers a taster to reflexology before possibly committing yourself to a fully accredited course consisting of many case studies. This course will provide the ideal preparation should you wish to go onto the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology. At the end of the course you will be awarded a Freedom Therapies Training Certificate. Alternatively you may want to just learn the basic skills to practice on family and friends. The courses are open to anyone with an interest in reflexology; no experience is necessary. Learn basic reflexology skills for relaxation, rejuvenation and to help minor ailments such as constipation, sinusitis, and even more major ailments such as insomnia, depression and pain relief.

Reflexology is an ancient practice for good health and wellbeing and has been used for over 3000 years as a prevention as well as a cure. The theory behind reflexology is that each of the body's organs and glands are "linked" to corresponding areas of the hands and feet. Using thumb, finger and hand techniques pressure is applied to specific areas of the hands, feet and sometimes ears to have a reflex action on the corresponding body part to help alleviate common ailments such as headaches, back pain, sinus problems, colds and stress. Reflexology can help bring balance to the body, mind and soul.

INTRODUCTION TO INDIAN HEAD MASSASGE

This one day course introduces you to the basic moves for Indian head massage which is a seated treatment which works on the face, shoulders, arms, neck and head. This can be carried out anywhere and is a lovely treatment to give to your friends and family to de-stress and help with headaches and to ease tension in the neck and shoulders. It can help relax and if required energise too. The content of the day consists of:
